Every six months you must have a building inspector come and give a "continuation inspection" even if nothing has progressed with the building. The April 29th deadline was quickly approaching . Gary was scheduled to teach extra classes for the week of April 19th-23rd, so he knew he wouldn't be able to get anything done on the log cabin during that week. He scheduled an inspection for Thursday, April 14th. When the inspector arrived, he asked, "What am I here for--a combo inspection?" Gary replied, "No, just a continuation inspection." When the building inspector went in and saw how much was done, he said, "Why don't I just give you a combo inspection and leave you a list of what needs to be completed?" Gary agreed and was pleasantly surprised with the short list of things that need to be done in order to pass the "combo inspection". This is the BIG inspection Gary has been dreading. The inspector looks at all the electrical and the rough plumbing. Gary doesn't know of anyone who passed their "combo" on the first try, so finding out he is so close has really inspired him. Last night he couldn't sleep because he was thinking of the things he needs to get done to get the combo completed so that he can get on to the next step.
After the combo, next is insulation, then tongue and groove in the ceiling, drywall on the interior walls, slate in the master bathroom shower, and last of all, the kitchen appliances, counter tops, and cabinets. Flooring is not required for the final inspection, so that will come much later.
