Christmas Day 2009

Christmas Day 2009

Papa's Fountain had plenty of water to give us a quick fountain show.

Kyleigh received face paints and Uncle Bryan painted a Dalmatian on her cheek.

Santa brought Kyleigh the Barbie car that she had asked him to bring her. She drove it around the entire block while Lisa and Debi walked behind her. The car has a top speed of 5 MPH!

Uncle Gary and Aunt Debi gave Kyleigh the game "Chutes and Ladders".

We actually got Mom to play Scrabble, so we had to document it with a photo!

Cookie Decorating on Christmas Eve

Kyleigh shows off one of her decorated cookies.

Sammy and Kyleigh decorated gingerbread men and sugar cookies. They had a great time and did a nice job with the decorating.

We went to Bryan's house for Christmas Eve and stuffed ourselves with chicken enchiladas, El Salvadoran tamales, salad, frijoles, guacamole and chips, red velvet cake, fruit tarts, wassail, Mexican hot chocolate, candy and cookies. We ate way too much!

Bryan had another great outdoor light display this year! The theme was "It's a Small World". Here's the link to watch the Christmas display:

Bryan's fireplace helped set a festive mood.

Road Base on Driveway

We had some "road base" delivered this week and Gary spent several hours spreading it out with his tractor. Last winter the driveway turned into a muddy, icy, frozen mess. We thought we'd try some preventative maintenance this year so we won't have that problem anymore. This part of the house is in the shade and faces northeast, so it is always the last place that snow and ice melts.

This gives us an idea of what it will look like once we pour concrete for a driveway.
The orange cones along the side of the driveway mark where rock columns will be erected. Gary installed electrical conduit under the driveway so that lights can be placed on top of the rock columns.

Japanese Christmas Nativity 2009

メリークリスマス
Japanese Nativity 2009

Every year I purchase a new Nativity for Christmas. This year I bought a Japanese Nativity. My brother, Tom, and my brother-in-law, David, each served as missionaries to Japan. My sister, Lisa, is married to Darin Onishi, a Japanese man, so that makes my niece, Kyleigh one-half Japanese. My dad served in the U.S. Navy and has been to Japan. I remember the Japanese wooden nesting doll set (each doll is inside another and each one gets smaller and smaller) that Dad used to let us play with when we were younger. This Nativity set reminded me of those dolls. This set was purchased with all of my relatives in mind. Merry Christmas!
