Bobcat in the Backyard on New Year's Day 2011

Bobcat in the Backyard!
This morning Debi woke up in time to watch the Rose Parade, but Gary elected to stay in bed. Around 9:00 a.m., Gary yelled, "Debi! There's a Bobcat in the pine tree!" Debi ran to the bedroom and looked out the French doors and saw a large cat up in the tree. A few seconds later, we saw three coyotes come into the backyard. The Bobcat remained in the tree. We heard birds chirping noisily, but the birds stayed in the tree. In fact, a large crow almost seemed to be taunting the Bobcat by flying close to the tree and cawing loudly. Then the Bobcat jumped down and started heading toward the shop. It then turned toward the south and Debi snapped the picture above. If you click on the picture, it will be enlarged and you can see the Bobcat in the shadows on the right side of the pile of dirt.

About an hour later, we got brave enough to go outside and look for footprints. However, the ground was still frozen so no footprints were in the dirt. This photo shows Gary standing where we last saw the Bobcat. What a way to start the New Year!
