Kitchen Cabinets: South Wall

Gary had noticed that this cabinet on the south wall did not have the proper 18" from under the cabinet to the countertop.  He decided that it would be best to raise it 1"-2" so that it would match the future cabinets that will be on the east wall.  So, on Monday (Columbus Day Holiday) I took everything out of the cabinet and removed the shelves so that Gary would be able to raise it up.  Today (Wednesday) he had the time to raise it up about 1"-2".  The biggest improvement that I noticed is I am now able to move my Kitchen Aide mixer in and out from under the cabinet easily.  Before the cabinet was raised, I had to tilt it so that it would fit under the cabinet.  It is so much nicer now!

Another bonus is that Gary added cup hooks under the left side of the cabinet to hold mugs.  The mugs are green, so you have to look really hard to find them.

I  moved the phone outlet from the kitchen counter to the computer desk.  The red bread box that you see in the "Before" photo will be moved to the countertop under the future "breakfast cabinet".  I read in a book on kitchen organization that one of the cabinets in your kitchen should be just for breakfast foods.  So, when the cabinets on the east wall are built, the one closest to the refrigerator will hold breakfast cereal, vitamins, peanut butter, Tang, and a fiber drink.  The toaster and the bread box will go under that cabinet.
